Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up my first camera?
Open Maticam on the phone you want to use as a camera, tap "Use as Camera", give your camera a name, and share the QR code or pairing code. On your viewer device, scan the QR code or enter the pairing code to connect.
Can I take screenshots and record video?
Screenshots are free for all users. Live stream recording is available on Plus and Pro plans. Recordings are saved directly to your viewer device.
How do motion alerts work?
When your camera detects motion, you get an instant push notification with a snapshot preview. Free users get 5 alerts per day. Plus and Pro subscribers get unlimited alerts.
Why is my video quality poor?
Video quality depends on your internet connection and plan. For best results, connect both devices to WiFi. Free users stream at 480p — upgrade to Plus (1080p) or Pro (Ultra HD) for sharper video.
Can I use it when I'm away from home?
Yes! Maticam works anywhere you have an internet connection. Your camera device needs to stay powered on and connected to WiFi.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Go to your device's subscription settings to cancel. Your premium features remain active until the end of the billing period.
Is my video footage stored on your servers?
No. Maticam uses peer-to-peer (WebRTC) technology — video streams directly between your devices. We never see or store your video footage.
Why does my camera go offline?
Common causes: the camera phone going to sleep, WiFi disconnection, or the app being closed. Make sure battery optimization is disabled for Maticam and the device stays plugged in.
How many cameras can I add?
Free: 1 camera, 1 viewer. Plus: 3 cameras, 3 viewers each. Pro: 10 cameras, 10 viewers each.
Troubleshooting
Camera won't connect
- Ensure both devices have internet access
- Check that the pairing code hasn't expired (15 minutes)
- Try regenerating the pairing code
- Restart the Maticam app on both devices
- Check if your firewall/router is blocking WebRTC connections
Not receiving notifications
- Check phone notification settings for Maticam
- Ensure motion detection is enabled in camera settings
- Check that you haven't hit the daily alert limit (free tier: 5/day)
- Make sure battery saver mode isn't blocking notifications
App crashes or freezes
- Update to the latest version of Maticam
- Restart your phone
- Clear the app cache (in phone settings)
